Organic Lawn And Landscape Treatments
Ranson Brothers Inc. is committed to practicing lawn and landscape maintenance services with  the safety of our environment in mind. Organic treatments may also be safer for your family and pets. We do believe in "bridge applications" if the situation calls for synthetic herbicides or pesticides. However we are not believers in blanket chemical applications without reason. We spot treat weeds and insects as a problem arises to minimize our impact on the environment.

Compost top dressing is the process of adding 100% organic material to an existing stand of turf grass.  Our sandy calcareous soils here in Florida are very low in organic material. This inhibits the soils ability to hold moisture. It also leaches our fertilizers quicker than the plants are able to uptake the nutrients. Whether it's organic or synthetic fertilizers our sandy soils are unable to hold them for any long period of time. This causes contamination of our waterways and contributes to red tide at our beaches as well as algae blooms in our rivers and streams. Compost also introduces beneficial micro organisms which naturally fight off diseases and helps the plant heal from insect damage. By improving your sandy soils with compost you will benefit financially by not irrigating or fertilizing as frequently.  Both of these things will also have a beneficial impact on our environment.

Ranson Brothers Inc. also offers environmentally friendly mechanical services for your lawn, including core aeration and verti-cutting. Core aeration is the process of pulling "plugs" of compacted soil from you lawn with specialized equipment. Aeration alleviates compaction as well as allowing greater Oxygen flow to the root zone of your turf. Aeration and proper fertilization will encourage thicker deeper root growth. This will allow your turf to not only be more drought resistant but will make your turf over all more healthy. "Thatch" is a layer of dead and dying plant material which forms below the turf and above the soil. When thatch becomes to thick it becomes a haven for fungus as well as certain insects like chinch bugs. Thatch also prevents nutrients as well as water from penetrating to the root zone. Which is exactly where the plants need them to be. Ranson Bros. has invested in specialized equipment called a "vert-cutter" which is used to safely remove thatch from your lawn. Thatch is often believed to be cause by grass clipping when a lawn is mowed, however this is not true. Thatch is usually a direct result of over watering and over fertilizing your lawn contributing to excess growth.
